Blend: 94% CS; 3% Merlot; 2% Cab Franc; 1% Malbec
Quintessence, Obelisco, and Ciel du Cheval Vineyards, all located in the Red Mountain AVA, are three of my favorites. These particular vineyards always express the terroir of Red Mountain especially well. The rich soils, dependable air drainage from south winds, and limited rainfall result in highly concentrated berries with thick skin, rich inky color, and daring complexity.
